Key Lines
On 21 February 2026, the Alba Party leadership suggested the party would be wound up and withdrawn from the Scottish Parliament election – without a membership ballot. Four thousand members were told it was over. No vote. No consultation.
Three serving NEC members and a constitutionally appointed National Office Bearer formed the Alba Continuation Group to demand an immediate membership ballot on whether to contest the 7 May election.
The Alba Party constitution contains no provision allowing the NEC to dissolve or de-register the party. Only National Conference – with a two-thirds majority – can take that decision. That majority was never sought.
One thing: a membership ballot. Should Alba Party contest the regional list in May 2026? Whatever the members decide should be binding. The ballot can be operational within two hours.
